GRAN CAFFÈ

Gran Caffè is Liverpool’s authentic Italian coffee shop that has been serving its delicacies and dishes for over 10 years. Renowned for its Italian coffee, handcrafted pastries, delicious sandwiches, and its award-winning, artisan gelato that’s made in-house everyday, Gran Caffè first opened in Williamson Square, before opening more recently on Duke Street and Lark Lane.

CHALLENGE

The Cillo family are passionate about sharing an authentic Italian experience with their guests, serving an array of Italian delicacies that are hand crafted each day and supplied by their family members, making it a true, family-run business.

The family didn't feel that this was widely known by guests and Liverpool's first Italian coffee shop and bakery, they wanted to capitalise on this USP and showcase their calibre and quality of food, bread, cakes, coffee, gelato and cocktails whilst also communicating their plans for expansion for a second site in Liverpool city centre on Duke Street, and a third on Lark Lane in South Liverpool.

STRATEGY

Propel PR worked with Gran Caffè on Event Management and looked after the launch of both its new Duke Street and Lark Lane venues, influencer engagement and full launch strategies for both that included press releases to communicate the openings and key messages, digital reviews and post-launch coverage.

VENUE SPECIFIC TACTICS

Propel PR worked with owners Paolo and Donato to effectively communicate the variety of dishes and bakes available at Gran Caffè, how they're freshly made in-house each day using their families ingredients - their brother freshly bakes their sourdough, ciabatta and soft focaccia, and Donato’s wife, Antonietta, creates the signature croissants, delicate cakes and traditional gelato each day. 

All ingredients for Gran Caffè’s dishes are provided by their sister’s A Tavola da Maria Delicatessen using products imported from Italy and their coffee is ground from beans from their family’s roastery, Torrefazione Lucana, in Potenza. 

We focussed on using its expansion to remind the audience on Gran Caffè's offering, showcasing their expertly made pastries and cakes, as well as Italian small plates and cocktails, whilst revealing a full new brunch menu. Hosting launch events at both Duke Street and Lark Lane proved to be very successful, with a range of food and drink bloggers, influencers, media, corporates and local businesses getting involved and coming to see the space first-hand. 

For both venues, we had a full PR launch strategy in place that included press releases to communicate their openings, showcase the interior and engage the community with giveaways and free croissants/coffee for the first 100 guests. We also followed up with post-launch coverage, inviting the Liverpool Echo to create a TikTok of the items available at Lark Lane, as well as family influencers from further afield who were blogging about days out and things to do near Sefton Park.

RESULTS

Both Gran Caffè Duke Street and Lark Lane have enjoyed overwhelming success since opening and have successfully launched their new brunch dishes that are unique to the concept with their freshly baked croissants being the chosen accompaniment to all brunch dishes including Full English, Benedicts and more. 

Tapping into both South Liverpool and the wider Liverpool City Centre has been key, showcasing the quality and authenticity of the Italian dishes and bakery so that guests know they can expect only the best at Gran Caffè.
